The Visual Concept
A Painter’s Approach
Conceptualizing ideas is a necessary process for many mediums of art. The process of planning out a design is very similar to creating a painting. Fine artistry requires a variety of techniques such as; color theory, craft making, draftsmanship etc. So what happens when an artist paints off of the canvas? Painting is more than just the act of using art materials, it’s creating a new experience that can either last a second or a lifetime. Over the years Iv’e naturally pivoted into the Interior Design industry, as an artist who conducts projects for both residential and commercial spaces. Iv’e simply embraced the urge to explore more surfaces than just canvas, migrating from smaller to larger pieces and eventually standard sized walls. Iv’e found that I’ve always had an interest in staging complete spaces with a visual concept.
Living Within a Painting
I really love the idea of being in a space that tells a story… indulging in a specific feeling, energy or a captivating memory. Have you ever quickly glanced at a piece of artwork and found yourself looking back to revisit what seemed so familiar or intriguing? That’s always my focus whenever I design something new or create a new work of art. If it grabs a viewer’s attention for more than a second… I know it has evoked something unforgettable or made them feel invited. I call that living within a painting. Narrative painting is a style of art that’s often very cinematic and can open different realms of conceptualization. This art form isn’t always a portrait of the human figure, it’s actually often a still life. Still life narratives can tell enough of a story with just one object. That is what interior design is to me visually.
